Graveside services for Mr. William H. "Bill" White, age 87, of Rickman will be conducted at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 17, 2010 from the Zion Hill Cemetery in Rickman with Rev. Chris Reagan officiating. There will be a military service performed with full military honors by the Honor Guard from the James T. Davis Memorial Post 5062 of Livingston with burial to follow. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.
Mr. White died June 15, 2010 at Cookeville Regional Hospital. He was born March 7, 1923 in Chester County, Tennessee to the late William & Sally Whitson White. He was a retired teacher after 30 years of teaching in the Overton County school system.
He was a member of the Zion Hill United Methodist Church, Livingston Masonic Lodge #259, and Livingston Eastern Star. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He served with the 180th Infantry and was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star after receiving injuries at Anzio Beachhead in Italy.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Opal Breeding White of Rickman; daughters, Nanette White of Rickman, Vickie & husband, Jack Thompson of Rickman, and Janette & husband, Larry Miller of Coldwater, MS; grandsons, Logan Moore of Rickman and Brian Miller of Jackson, MS; niece, Felicia White and nephew, Wally White, both of Southaven, MS.
He is preceded in death by his father: William White, mother: Sally Whitson White Massey, and brothers: Joe and George White.
