Dr. Margaret B. McDonald, age 83, of Livingston passed from time into eternity on April 22, 2024, from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born at home in the Hardys Chapel Community on November 24, 1940, to the late William Herman and Lillian Auda Murphy Bowers. Margaret was a 1958 graduate of Livingston Academy and a 1964 graduate of the University of Florida with a BS degree in pharmacy. She returned to Tennessee in 1967 with her husband David Lee Brown, a teacher and farmer. David died in 1975 following a long battle with metastatic brain cancer. She married Carl McDonald a retired construction worker and farmer in 1980, They would spend the next 29 years together until his death in 2009.
Margaret retired from Kroger Pharmacy in Crossville in 2003. She worked 38 years as a pharmacist and a farmers assistant. Margaret was proud to be the first female Pharmacists in Overton County, Tennessee.
Margaret leaves behind her daughter, Kelly Brown of Livingston, TN; granddaughter, Hannah Houser of Johnson City, TN; stepson, James David McDonald; step grandson, James Patrick McDonald; and sister, Alane Bowers Koczwara and husband Chuck of Simpsonville, SC. Granny Margaret as she was fondly called by close family and friends also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husbands David Lee Brown, and James Carl McDonald; brothers, Gilbert Bowers and Billy Keith Bowers; sister Judy Bowers Livingston.
Mrs. McDonald expressed her wish to be cremated with no memorial services.
