Charlie “Truman” Brown, born October 19, 1933, lived ninety-two fulfilling years until he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on the morning of Friday, May 1, 2026. Truman was born in the Mitchell Creek area of Clay County, Tennessee, to the late Fred and Elma Brown. He was a man of deep faith who loved God, his family, and believed strongly in the value of hard work. He was a member of the Summershade Church of Christ.

At an early age, Truman moved to Utah for his first paying job outside of working on the family farm. After only a few months, he returned home and married the love of his life, Reva. Together, Truman and Reva built a life centered on love, family, and faith. They raised three children, built a home, and instilled lasting values in all who knew them.

Truman was often recognized for how hard he worked. Over the years, he held many roles, including farmer, bus driver, and factory worker, before retiring from Standing Stone State Park. Even in retirement, his work did not stop. He took early retirement to care for his ailing sister and parents, and later became a devoted caregiver to his beloved wife, Reva. Through his care for her, he showed the true meaning of love and commitment.

After Reva’s passing, Truman continued to live life in the ways he loved most. He spent his days gardening, mowing the yard—almost daily—hunting, freezing corn, drying and freezing apples, gathering and shelling pecans, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. He watched the Atlanta Braves faithfully, enjoyed meals at Ollie’s, and recently discovered just how good Texas Roadhouse rolls and butter could be. He planted his last full garden in 2024, though he still tended a few tomato plants by the porch. In 2025, at the age of 92 years old he proudly harvested his first turkey.

Truman was the very best storyteller, and his stories will live on in the hearts of those who heard them. Even in his last few months, he continued to find joy in the little things—like when his youngest great-grandchild, Hattie would stay all night and declared him the best babysitter for her baby dolls, attempting to kill a turkey on opening weekend from his back porch just two weeks ago and having his morning honey bun and cup of coffee. He strived to keep things as structured and routine as they always were until his body just wouldn’t allow him to.

Truman is survived by his daughters, Vickie (Randy) Dodson and Peggy McCollum; his granddaughters, Amanda (Chad) Masters and Megan (Jarrod) Grant; his great-grandchildren, Briley, Rylan, and Hattie Masters, and Jaxon Grant; and his sister Carolyn Martin. He is also survived by his very best friend and daily sidekick, Doug Reagan, along with Doug’s wife, Sheila, and daughters, Jillian and Savannah.

Truman is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Reva Smith Brown; son, Donnie Brown; son-in-law, Jeff McCollum; grandson, David Dodson; and siblings, Geneva Melton, Winnie Lou McDonald, Patsy Brown, Clarice Akers, Edna Hummel, and infant brother, Norman Brown.

All who knew Truman felt honored to call him a friend, and those who were blessed to call him family will carry his memory forever. His life leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, andhard work. It is now ours to carry forward even a small part of the example he set.

Pallbearers will be Doug Reagan, Randy Dodson, Jarrod Grant, Jaxon Grant, Chad Masters, and Rylan Masters.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Borden, Jackie Kirby, Joe Sullivan, Michael Ray, Shannon Conner, Junior Conner, Chris Conner, Kenny Conner, Mark Ledford, and Greg Hargis.
