Ethel peacefully entered eternal rest on the morning of Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Overton County Health & Rehab. Born on June 23, 1943, in the Cooktown Community of Overton County, she was the daughter of the late James Blackhead and Auda Hill Cravens.
Ethel lived her life with a full heart and a deep love for her family, friends, and community. She spent years as a friendly face at Jessie’s Market in Monroe, where her warm smile and talent for cooking created a welcoming atmosphere for all. Outside of work, Ethel poured her energy into growing stunning flowers that brightened her home and brought joy to everyone who saw them.
She was happiest in the quiet moments of life—sitting on her front porch, coffee in hand, her dog Flash by her side, and the sounds of nature around her. She loved her family fiercely, treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, and always had a kind word or a funny story to share.
Ethel leaves behind a family that adored her. Surviving are her daughter, Kim Craig and husband Michael of Albany, KY; her son, Greg "Cracker" Hill and fiancée Courtney Rush of Monroe, TN; and her beloved grandchildren: Mikaela Craig Stalcup (husband Patrick), Madison Craig, Taylor Hill (partner Jacob Wilson), Allie Hill, and Ian Hill. She was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Georgia Stalcup, who will carry forward her memory.
Ethel is also survived by her sister, Betty Abston of Crossville, TN; her brothers, Clovis Cravens of Cookeville, TN, and Ralph Cravens (wife Lena) of Cravenstown, TN; and her cherished daughter-in-law, Letha Garrett of Livingston, TN, mother of Taylor and Allie. Among her extended family, her special niece, Sandra Smith, held a place close to her heart.
She is reunited in Heaven with her loving husband, Kermit Duett Hill; her sisters, Effie Stover and Ruby Frogge; and her brothers, Billy Cravens, Dayton Cravens, and Alan Cravens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Madison Craig, Willie Frogge, James Frogge, Brian Smith, Nate Smith, and Jacob Wilson.
Ethel’s love for her family and the simple joys of life will be remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, laughter, and the beauty she created through her flowers and her warm spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
