Livingston Funeral Home - Garry D. Shoemake Obituary
In Loving Memory of Mr. Garry D. Shoemake (1957–2024)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Garry D. Shoemake, age 67, of the Mohawk Valley Community. Garry departed this life on the evening of December 24, 2024, at Livingston Regional Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on June 30, 1957, in Monroe, Tennessee, to the late Wilburn Lee Shoemake and Estelle Mae Sells Shoemake, Garry grew up embodying the values of hard work, devotion, and love for his family. A member of the Free Communion Church of Christ, Garry’s faith was evident in the way he lived his life—with kindness, humility, and an unwavering dedication to those he cared for.
Garry will forever be remembered as a true family man. He poured his heart into providing for and nurturing his loved ones. Whether guiding his children and grandchildren on adventures like hunting for Dryland Fish or frog gigging, or cheering passionately for his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Garry found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments.
Garry is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Mrs. Sherlene Reagan Shoemake; his children, Jarrod Shoemake, Sarah Vaughn, and Heather Looper, all of Monroe, TN; and his beloved grandchildren, MaKenzie Reeder, Katie Looper, James Vaughn, Krowe Prichard, Skylar Vaughn, and Kylee Prichard. He also leaves behind his brothers, Rick, Bill, and Ronnie Shoemake; sisters, Rhonda Shoemake, Michelle Harris (Charles), Linda Massengille, and Sue Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Estelle, his infant son, Garry Elijah Shoemake, and his sister Judy Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Livingston Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Bro. Wayne Taylor. Garry will be laid to rest in Old Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, December 27, from 5 to 9 p.m., and again on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jarrod Shoemake, Clay Phillips, Ryan Harris, Tyler Harris, Jordan Vaughn, Shane Parsons, Nathan Reagan, and Issac Brown. Honorary pallbearers include Coty Parsons, Ronnie Shoemake, and Rick Shoemake.
Garry’s legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is deeply missed, his memory will remain a guiding light for his family and friends. Rest in peace, Garry, in the arms of the Lord.
