Livingston Funeral Home - Robert Owens Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Allen Owens, 51, of the Timothy Community of Overton County, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Sam Masters officiating.  Military Honors will be provided after the service by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard.

To honor Robert’s wishes, the family has chosen cremation after the services with private burial in Good Hope Cemetery at a later date.

The family will welcome friends on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., and again Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 3:30 p.m.

Robert passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022, at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro after a brief illness with his family by his side.

Robert was a construction superintendent for over 25 years, having worked on many different job sites from New Mexico to Florida to Rhode Island. He was a goof-ball by nature and loved to aggravate people, especially those he loved. He was very proud of all his children, including those he unofficially adopted into his family over the years.  He was a hard-working, honorable man, always providing for his family, and he strove to instill those same values in his children. Robert served his country by enlisting in the United States Army in August 1989. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Born November 30, 1970, in New Castle, IN, he was the son of Sheila Sidwell and the late Roger Sidwell.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by the man he considered his second father, John Thomas “J.T.” Smith, and mother-in law, Mildred Smith; and his grandparents, Hyacinth and Lloyd Kern.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Rebecca Owens of the Timothy Community; four children, Jonathan Owens and his wife Tristen of Rickman, and Mackenzie Owens, Zander Owens, and Logan Owens, all of the Timothy Community; a grandson, John Thomas Owens; his mother, Sheila Sidwell of Celina; two brothers, Mike Owens and his wife Melissa of Bloomington Springs and Bruce Owens and his wife Amanda of Hilham; two sisters, Rachel Smith of the Timothy Community and Annette Leisure of Dayton, OH; a brother-in-law, Tommy Smith of Allons; and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, close family friends, and work colleagues.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Owens, Mark Poindexter, Josh Sloop, Brandon Owens, and Tracy Mills.

Honorary pallbearers are Kody Gildner, Jason Raith, Dell Sinclair, Kameron McDaniel, and Ray LaRue.
