Funeral Services for Mrs. Virginia Deane White, age 96, of the Big Springs Community will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Bro. Eric Dillon will officiate. Burial to follow in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. The family will welcome friends on Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m.
Mrs. White passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday morning, August 21, 2022. She was born July 6, 1926, in Twinton, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Otis Gunter and Rebecca Lee Gunter. A graduate of Baxter Seminary High School. She later earned an associate degree from Martin college. She also attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. Mrs. White achieved the degrees of Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Elementary Education. She went on to enjoy thirty-four years of teaching and enjoyed her forty-three years of retirement.
At an early age Mrs. White knew the greatest gift she could give someone was to teach them to read. She first shared this gift with her siblings. She went on to give this gift to her daughters, students, and her grandchildren. All of which gave her great joy because, she knew if you were able to read you could attain any goal you set your sites on.
Mrs. Virginia White was a long-time member of Monroe Community Church; and in her later years she became a member of the Livingston First Freewill Baptist Church in Livingston, Tennessee.
She was also proceeded in death by her beloved husband Wille D. White of Monroe, Tennessee; two brothers, Otis Gunter of Hilham, Tennessee; and Tom Gunter of Indianapolis, Indiana; and one sister Wilma Boyd of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Mrs. White was blessed with two daughters, Beth Payne and her husband Tim Payne of Atlanta, Georgia. Susan Asberry and her husband Jake Asberry of Monroe, Tennessee. She was also blessed with three grandchildren: Thomas Ledford, Hunter Payne, and Parker Payne.
She is survived by two sisters, Ruby Lewis of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Patty Howard and husband Doyle Howard of Vine Ridge, Tennessee and three brothers, Ferrell Gunter of Cookeville, Tennessee; Frankie (Eddie) Gunter and his wife Nancy of Newman, Georgia; Charlie Gunter and his wife Evelyn of Livingston, Tennessee. Many nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express deepest gratitude to the friends and family who have supported Virginia in recent years, those who kept her in their prayers, and those who sent special food treats through Susan. A special thank you to niece Tammy Robinson Gunter for all the care that you lovingly bestowed upon Virginia this past year. She loved each and sincerely appreciated every gesture of kindness.
Pallbearers to serve are Rick Hoover, Mike Hoover, Danny Hoover, Phillip Gunter, Michael "Jim" Gunter, and Thomas Ledford.
