Speck Funeral Home - Betty Wells Obituary

Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty Louise Little Wells, age 82, of the Rickman Community, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Oak Hill Church, with Bro. Todd Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, July 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, all at Oak Hill Church.

Mrs. Betty passed from this life on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. She was born at home in Monroe, Tennessee, to the late Casper D. Little and Ona Grace Robbins Little.

Betty was the very definition of a virtuous woman—gracious, kind, and deeply devoted to her family, faith, and community. A 1960 graduate of Rickman High School, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Tennessee Tech, and later her Master’s Degree in Education in 1989.

She spent 25 years as a kindergarten teacher, shaping young hearts and minds with her patient spirit, gentle voice, and unwavering love. She saw the potential in every child and remained proud of each of her students long after they left her classroom.

Her happy place was her beloved farm in Rickman, where she raised beautiful gardens and shared her harvest with her family and neighbors. Her flowers were as vibrant and full of life as she was, and her home was always warm, welcoming, and meticulously kept—truly a place of beauty and peace.

A lifelong member of Oak Hill Church, Betty served faithfully for many years—organizing church homecomings, leading the food ministry, and teaching Sunday School. She loved listening to Christian radio and lived a life of quiet service, humility, and strength.

Betty and her dear husband, Howard Calvin Wells, who passed away in March after 60 years of marriage, were a devoted pair—always working hand-in-hand on the farm and in the church. She was also proud to be part of the Farm Bureau Women Organization.

More than anything else, Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She poured her heart into being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and simple, steadfast grace.

She is survived by:

Son: Bryan Wells and wife Mary of Rickman, TN

Daughter: Stephanie Wells Norris and husband Craig of Byrdstown, TN

Grandchildren: Branson Wells, Braxton Wells, Elizabeth George (husband Chris), and Caroline Norris

Great-Granddaughter: Edith Louise George

Sister: Margaret Brown and husband Willard of Cookeville, TN

Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by:

Her husband: Howard Calvin Wells

Sister: Anna Faye Fielder

Pallbearers will be: Branson Wells, Braxton Wells, John Verble, Richard Brown, Chris Huddleston, Noah Hinson, and Chris George.

The family warmly welcomes any and all of her former students to attend and celebrate her life, and to share the stories and memories that meant so much to her. Betty loved each of her students dearly, and nothing would honor her more than knowing she made a lasting difference in their lives.
