Speck Funeral Home - Bobby Ray Cooper Obituary

Bobby Ray Cooper, 79, of Livingston, passed away peacefully at his home on November 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 28, 1946, to Charlie and Hallie Dishman Cooper. Bobby lived a life of unwavering love for his family, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone around him.

An avid fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers—Bobby cheered passionately for the Big Orange. He and his beloved wife, Joyce Faye, were also supporters of the Livingston Academy Wildcats. Music filled his heart, particularly the soul-stirring sounds of bluegrass and the harmonious melodies of IIIrd Tyme Out and The Isaacs. As a member of Allons Baptist Church, Bobby raised his family in the light of faith, instilling in them a deep love for the Lord and for one another.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Bobby served his country with honor. His commitment to service extended far beyond the military; as a skilled brick mason, he built not only structures but also lasting legacies through his work. Bobby shared his expertise generously, teaching construction trades at TCAT and passing down these arts to his children and grandchildren. His hands, calloused from years of labor, were always ready to help, to create, and to embrace those he loved.

Bobby is survived by his cherished wife of many years, Joyce Faye Cooper of Livingston; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Nicole Cooper of Livingston; his sisters, Sue Allen of Cookeville and Charlene Holt of High Point, North Carolina; and his brother-in-law, Roy Duvall. To his grandchildren, "Pa" was the truest definition of love-tirelessly devoted, endlessly caring, and utterly irreplaceable. He leaves behind that boundless legacy in his grandchildren: Bobby Dayl and Kimberly Cosgrove, Wade and Haley Cooper, Allison Cooper, Bradley Cooper, and John Oliver Cooper; as well as his great-grandchildren, Cooper Wayne Cosgrove and Tatum Kaye Cosgrove.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Bobby Wayne Cooper; his sisters, Retha Ogletree, Shirley Duvall, and Patsy Allen; and his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Allen, Lauren Holt, and Joe Allen.

The family will welcome friends on Thursday, November 6, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m., until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the Speck Funeral Home chapel in Livingston. The Overton County Veterans Honor Guard will render military honors after the service, with cremation to follow the services.

Though his family mourns his absence, they find comfort in knowing Bobby is free from pain and rejoicing in the presence of his Savior. His life was a testament to love, faith, and the quiet strength of a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
