Speck Funeral Home - Bro. Chris Coil Obituary
Bro. Christopher Allen Coil was born September 25, 1960, in West Memphis, Arkansas to the late Charles & Maye Coil. Chris grew up on his family’s 200-acre farm in Florence, Alabama on Indian Camp Creek. Many of his most cherished memories occurred along the banks of that creek. Chris passed from this life on March 4, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Nashville following a brief illness at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Chris is survived by the love of his life, Lisa Garrett Coil of Allons, TN, and his children EmmaClaire Coil and Ivan (Hannah) Coil also of Allons. Sisters: Charlotte (Jim) Martin of Memphis, TN, Carole Coil Medley of Florence, AL, Brother: Charlie (Paula) Coil, Jr. of Bentonville, AK, Brother-in-law: Keith Medley (Kim) of Florence, AL. Sister-in-law: Lounetta Garrett of Allons, TN Chris is also survived by his cherished nieces and nephews, great niece and great nephews, and his beloved dog, Jack.
Chris loved Louis Lamour books, Lonesome Dove, Master & Commander, and True Grit movies, Military and Civil War history, the Alabama Crimson Tide, old Cadillacs, cut off cowboy boots, Mt. Dew, a thick medium rare steak, and lemon ice box pie! Chris lived his life in faithful dedication to the Lord Jesus Christ. He ministered over 40 years to congregations in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama. He held countless gospel meetings in several states. He traveled abroad to do mission work in Central America and Budapest, Hungary, and he also taught several years as an adjunct professor in the History department at Freed Hardeman University.
Chris taught and believed to his core that ALL could be forgiven and find grace in the eyes of the Lord. He would often tell folks, “Let Jesus wash your feet.” John 13:1-17 Chris loved the prophet Amos in the Old Testament. He often referenced Amos the “country preacher” because he related to him so much! Chris loved dirt, trees, the smell of horses and hay, creeks, all things of the Earth, God’s Holy Word and the Lord’s Church. Chris’ favorite verse in Hebrews 10:28, “the just shall live by faith,” exemplifies the character and integrity he strove to live by. He was faithful to his wife for over 38 years, his beautiful children, and his Lord...always!
Chris began his official ministry as the “first” youth minister at the Livingston church of Christ back in the early ‘80s. He fell in love with that youth group and Overton County. So many of that youth group grew up to become his very best lifetime friends. He maintained those wonderful relationships until his passing.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Maye Coil. Grandparents: Walter & Fellie Coil, Eugene & America White, In-laws: Edwin & Peggy Garrett, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law: Marty & Kim Garrett. Best friends: John David White and Jacob Carwile.
