Carl peacefully passed from this life on Wednesday morning, December 18, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and joy. Born at home in the Copeland Cove Community of Overton County, Tennessee, Carl was the beloved son of the late Mack Luther and L. Bessie Allred Murphy.
Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army. In his earlier years, he traveled across the Upper Cumberland, sharing the gospel and singing gospel music alongside his wife. His life was a testament to faith and service, bringing comfort and inspiration to those around him.
Carl found joy in life’s simple pleasures: fishing, spending time with his family, and doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Later in life, he worked as a greeter at the Algood Walmart, where he brightened countless days with his warmth. Around the holidays, he brought magic to children’s hearts by helping Santa Claus spread joy.
Carl will be deeply missed by his loving family:
Daughters: Marsha Murphy-Savage (husband Greg) of Hilham, TN, and Tonya Reagan (husband Joseph) of the Okolona Community.
Sons: Johnnie Murphy of Rickman, TN; Alan Murphy (wife Anita) of Livingston, TN; Billy Murphy (wife Linda) of Livingston, TN; and Ralph Murphy (partner Debbie Flatt).
Step-son: Tony Barham (wife Sandra).
Grandchildren: Johnny, Mark, Michael, Travis, Sara, Jordan, Phillip, Bryan, Mandy, Terah, Brittany, Tyler, Allie, Rhonda, James, Misty, Carl, and Heather.
24 precious great-grandchildren.
2 adored great-great-grandchildren.
Brother: James Murphy (wife Clara) of Livingston, TN.
Sisters: Louise Robbins (husband Greg) of Livingston, TN; Mary Gillentine, Linda Lee, and Ruby Murphy, all of Cookeville, TN.
Several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Carl is now reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Zula Irene Richardson Murphy; his son, David Murphy; his daughter, Sally Wyrick; his parents, Mack Luther and Bessie Murphy; and his dear friend, Mrs. Emily Stewart.
Carl’s family will honor him as pallbearers, a fitting tribute to a man who carried his loved ones in his heart every day of his life.
Carl Edward Murphy’s life was a shining example of faith, kindness, and unconditional love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his family invites everyone to join in celebrating his remarkable journey.
