Mrs. Carole Winningham, 91, of Livingston TN, passed away on May 16th, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Nashville TN, surrounded by her daughters.

 

A graveside Celebration of Life will take place at the Hatcher Hall Cemetery in Overton County on Sunday, June 7th, 2026 at 2 PM.

 

Mrs. Winningham was born in Rockwood TN on May 12th, 1935 to Haskell Harlan Roberts and Nellie Marie Stonecipher Roberts. She spent many happy years growing up at her childhood home on East University Street in Livingston. She loved to tell stories about the many children she played with in the neighborhood, all of whom went on to become her life-long friends.

 

Mrs. Winningham graduated from Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. 

 

On December 26, 1956, Mrs. Winningham married James Willard Winningham of the Taylor's Crossroads community in Overton County. After their marriage, she taught school in Louisville, KY, and Montgomery AL while MR. Winningham worked selling hardware supplies for Belknap Hardware Co.

 

in 1961, They returned home with their first daughter to Overton County, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. From the time she returned to Tennessee, until 1970, Mrs. Winningham taught 5th grade at Livingston Elementary. In 1970 a second baby girl was born. A baby boy was born on July 3rd, 1972, but sadly he passed away on October 20, 1972. In 1973 a 3rd daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Winningham.

 

She was lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Livingston, where she was the church pianist for many years.

 

Mrs. Winningham was preceded in death by her husband, James Willard Winningham, her son James Willard Winningham Jr., her parents Haskell Roberts and Nellie Stonecipher Roberts, and her only sibling, John M. Roberts.

 

Mrs. Winningham is survived by her three daughters, Lynda Winningham Patterson and husband Jeffrey D. Patterson of Cookeville, TN, Lisbeth Winningham Selby and husband Jeffrey Selby of Lexington KY, and Jamie Winningham Cobb and husband Christopher Cobb of Brentwood, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley Mullins Bray and husband Wesley Thomas Bray of Cookeville, Haley Mullins Van Edom and husband Bart Van Edom of Farragut TN, Willard Landon Mullins and wife Shenna Pendergrass Mullins of Livingston, Ridge Simmons Copeland and husband Jay Copeland of Murfreesboro, Bethany Selby and Jeffrey Selby of Lexington KY, and Grant Cobb, Jenna Carole Cobb, Jay Cobb, and Mary Cobb of Brentwood TN,

 

She is survived by eight great-grandchildren: Addison Bray, Jonah Bray, Jasper Bray, Ivy Mullins, Piper Mullins, Saylor Mullins, Asher Smith, And Andy Smith.

 

Mrs. Winningham is also survived by her special friend and companion, Mr. Glenn Gore of Hiham TN.
