Mr. Charles Milton Rice, born August 12, 1950, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on December 14, 2024, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. He was 74 years old.

Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Marita Rice (née Morris); his sons, Aaron Rice (Sarah) and Jeramee Rice (Anup Mahajan); and his beloved granddaughter, Addyson Rice. He also leaves behind his siblings, Lucille Eargle, Mary Nell Dornan, and Tony Rice (Karen) and loving in-laws Mary Smith (née Morris), Jim Morris (Jackie), Bonita Wells (John) and Judy Rice (George). Charles was preceded in death by his parents, M.L. and Sue Rice, his brothers, Napoleon Rice, George Rice, Kelvin Rice and Dinnie Rice and his very special in-laws Lyle Dornan (Mary Nell), Bud Eargle (Lucille) Betty Rice (Napoleon) and John Smith (Mary).

Charles was a pastor, educator, and family man who left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone he met. His passion for ministry and education inspired generations of students and congregants. He held teaching and administrative positions at the University of the Cumberlands (formerly Cumberland College) in Williamsburg, Kentucky and Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, Kentucky.

In ministry, Charles served faithfully at several churches, including Grays Baptist Church (Grays, Kentucky), First Baptist Church (Groveport, Ohio), Central Baptist Church (Oak Ridge, Tennessee), East Jellico Baptist Church (Pineville, Kentucky), Oakview Baptist Church (Okeechobee, Florida), and Allons Baptist Church (Livingston, Tennessee), where he retired in 2010.

A man of unwavering faith, wisdom, and love, Charles was cherished as a pastor, teacher, husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He found great joy in sharing the gospel, nurturing his family, and mentoring countless individuals throughout his lifetime.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to the Charles and Marita Rice Student Assistance Fund at Clear Creek Baptist Bible College, a cause close to Charles’ heart, to continue supporting students in their pursuit of education and ministry.

Charles’ legacy will continue in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, a testament to a life lived in service to God and others
