Obituary

Graveside Services for Mr. Cleo B. Swallows, age 92, of Rickman will be conducted 3 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2020 from the Harris Chapel Cemetery.  Bro. Rick Lacy will officiate.  The family will welcome friends on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of services at the Harris Chapel Church.

Mr. Cleo B. Swallows of Rickman, TN passed on Friday August 21, 2020 at the age of 92, after a 2 month rapid decline in health.  Cleo passed peacefully with family at his bedside.  He was born in Overton County, Tennessee on September 27, 1927 to his late parents, Herbert & Callie Ventress Swallows.  Cleo was the last of 3 brothers, and 1 sister to pass in his family.

Cleo was a little man with a big heart of gold.  He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend to all.  He enjoyed driving, working on his farm, and talking to everyone he met at the Livingston Quik Stop or as he called it "Dry Hollow Market".  Cleo especially enjoyed sitting on his front porch every morning and evening watching everyone pass by, blowing their horn and waving.  Cleo was a school bus driver for many years which he enjoyed seeing all the kids daily and taking them on many field trips.  After his retirement from the bus route he drove his own personal dump truck for many more years before his true retirement.  After retirement he worked full time on his farm in Rickman.  He raised cattle, hay and prepared gardens for friends and neighbors which he truly got enjoyment from.  If you ever passed his home he would either be on this blue ford tractor working, in his truck checking on this cattle, or setting on his front porch.

Cleo was a Christian man who was affiliated and actively attended Harris Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.  He was at church every time the doors were open until his health started declining.  Cleo loved his church and loved everything from church services, revivals, fellowship dinners, fellowship cookouts, and church workdays.  He truly loved his church family, especially seeing all the little kiddos at church, that made him smile!

Cleo loved his family and friends very much and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all that knew him.

Cleo leaves behind his loving wife of 71 years "A true marriage made in Heaven" Mrs. Gladys Webb Swallows, sons, Jerry Swallows of Rickman, TN, and Ronnie Swallows & wife Janet of the Independence Community; grandchildren, Michelle Nelson & husband Scottie, Melanie Kidd, and Jeremy Swallows; great-grandchildren, Makayla Mosley, Sway Swallows, Elyza Nelson, and Sophia Brazle.

In addition to his parents, Cleo was preceded in death by his brothers, and sister; son Freddy Swallows, and Daughter-in-Law, Susie Swallows.

Pallbearers to serve are Jeremy Swallows, Scottie Nelson, Bruce Walker, Josiah Walker, Troy Pennington, and Greg Ray.
