Speck Funeral Home - Curtis Odell Long Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Curtis Odell Long, age 79, of Livingston, TN. Curtis passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2025.

Born on September 20, 1945, in the Garrett Mill Community of Overton County, Curtis was the son of the late Odell and Lorene Holt Long. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work and dedication, traits that he carried with him throughout his life. A proud member of the National Guard Army, Curtis served for six years, demonstrating his commitment to his country.

A quality that truly defined him was his work ethic. Curtis spent 51 years working and running Freeman Apple Oil Company, building lasting friendships and serving his neighbors with a generosity of spirit that touched many. Whether it was working on his farm, raising cattle and horses, or ensuring that every inch of his land was pristine, he poured his heart into everything he did. Curtis was a member of the Livingston Church of Christ.

The true joy of his life, however, was his family. Curtis cherished spending time with his loved ones. Weekends at Dale Hollow Lake with his wife, children, and grandchildren were some of his happiest moments. His laughter and warmth will be missed more than words can express.

Curtis leaves behind his devoted wife of 58 years, Mrs. Elaine Apple Long, of Livingston, TN; his son Curt Long (Connie), and daughters Lela Long Davidson (Eddie) and Dr. Carrie Long Loghry (Steve), all of whom were blessed to be his children. He was a proud grandfather to Josh Long (Alexzandria), Olivia Long Looper (Josh), Abbi Davidson, Daniel Davidson, and Anna Davidson, Isaac and Dalton Loghry and a beloved great-grandfather to Brentley, Lucy, Bennett, and Lottie. Curtis is also survived by his sisters, Margaret Ward and Joyce Sells (Mayford), extended family, Lamoine Parsons (Buckie), and Rita Apple and many nieces and nephews who will carry his memory with them always.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Freeman Apple and Mary Helen Wright Apple, and his brother-in-law Don Apple.

The family will welcome friends on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Chris Coil and Bro. Jon Ledbetter will officiate, and burial will follow at Overton County Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard.

Curtis's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. He leaves behind a family who will always carry the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the memories of the man who made them feel truly cherished. He was a true gentleman.

Pallbearers will be Josh Long, Isaac Loghry, Dalton Loghry, Josh Looper, Brentley Long, Daniel Davidson, and Clay King.
