Mr. Edward (Ed) Lee Smay, 70, passed away from the comforts of his home on Monday June 8th 2026. Ed was a man who "knew stuff" and was known far and wide for intelligence and work dedication.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday June 13th from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston TN. The service will begin at 12 noon with the family welcoming friends to visit and share from 10 am until time for the service. Cremation will follow the service. 

Ed is survived by his spouse Cathy Smay, his mother Woneida Smay of Apollo PA, his sister in law Ralphene Smay of PA, several nieces and nephews, and other dear family members.

He was preceded in death by his father Wayne Smay, his sister Cindy Smay Ament, his brother Randy Smay, and other family members.

Ed was born October 4th   1955 in Apollo PA where he attended Kiski High School where he was a part of the 1973 graduating class. He graduated from the Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial College of Technology (Now Clarkson University) in Potsdam NY with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1977. Ed worked for many years for Alcoa Aluminum and was able to travel across the United States and even world-wide. Ed and Cathy were married for 39 years and enjoyed their travels together experiencing the sights and cultures in many areas including living in Japan for a period of time. Ed retired in 2008 from Alcoa but his work was not done as he was soon in demand as a consultant because Ed "knew stuff". Known as a fix-it man, Ed was very adept at using his hands and knowledge in many projects. An engineer by trade and a wood worker at heart, Ed crafted all sorts of wood products including custom making the trim in his home that he shared with his loving wife. For many years they would vacation at Dale Hollow Lake, camping, boating, water skiing, etc. They loved it so much that they decided to make the area their home. This gave Ed the excuse to to work in his yard and garden and enjoy first hand the creation that God made. Ed will be missed by his family and friends and the world will miss him because there are few people who 'know stuff' quite like Ed did.
