Speck Funeral Home - Ewert "River" Padgett Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. Ewert "River" Gentry Padgett, age 84 of Allons, will be held 2 pm Saturday, November 21, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston.  Bro. Joe Masters and Bro. Foy Stover will officiate.  Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with military honors provided at graveside by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard.  The family will welcome friends on Friday evening from 5 until 9 pm.

Ewert Gentry Padgett, better known as "River," was born in Tennessee on April 18, 1936, to Marion Varner and Ida Mabrey Padgett.  He passed away at the Overton County Health and Rehab Center on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at the age of 84.  He is survived by one nephew, Larry David Padgett, two nieces, Kaye Stover and Sheila King, two great nephews and one great niece, step-sons, step-daughter, other family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Padgett, his second wife, Dean Padgett, his parents Varner and Ida Padgett, two brothers, Void Padgett and Ray Padgett, and many other family and friends.  He is a member of The Church of Christ.  He served in the United States Army from 1958-1960 on Active Duty and then finished his tour in the Army National Guard attaining the rank of Sergeant E-5.  He was honorably discharged.  River worked operating the ferry at East Port for a time, he worked in factories and he operated a successful business, a convenience store at Allons,TN called "Knuckles."  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  River will be missed!

Pallbearers to serve are Mark Ledford, David Padgett, Ryan Davis, Kenny Conner, Junior Conner, Doug Reagan, Matt Padgett, and Perry Kingery.
