Speck Funeral Home - Gerene Matthews

Funeral Services for Mrs. Gerene Matthews, age 90, of Rickman will be conducted 2 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2022, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.  Bro. Rick Lacy and Bro. Troy Pennington will officiate.  Burial to follow in the Okolona Cemetery.  The family will welcome friends on Wednesday evening, from 5 until 9 p.m.

Mrs. Gerene passed from this life on Tuesday morning, March 15, 2022, from her home in Rickman.  She was born November 27, 1931, in Overton County, Tennessee to the late Ervin and Dee Ledbetter Hill.  Gerene was a member of the Oak Hill Church.  She made beautiful works of art with her needle and thread.  Going to church and singings was one of her favorite things to do.  Gerene also was known for her green thumb and cooking for her family and friends.  She always had a beautiful smile on her face, and her greatest joy in life was her family.

Gerene leaves behind her son, Bob Matthews and wife Sandra of Rickman, TN; daughter, Sandra Reed of Rickman, TN; grandchildren, Robbie Matthews and wife Rae Ann, Melissa Hammock and husband Terry, Jason Reed and wife Jessica, and Levada Reed and Mitchell Smith; great-grandchildren, Andy Howard, Abby, Maddie, and Brooke Hammock, and Kelsey Smith; sister, Margaret Roberson of Algood, TN.

In addition to her parents, Gerene was preceded in death by her husband Robert Ray Matthews, brothers, Ernest Hill and Enloe Hill; sisters, Deloy Brown, and Zola Ferrill; son-in-law, Jack Reed.

Pallbearers to serve are Robbie Matthews, Jason Reed, Andy Howard, Terry Hammock, Mitchell Smith, and Ronnie Smith.

Honorary Pallbearers are Levada Reed, Melissa Hammock, Abby Hammock, Maddie Hammock, Brooke Hammock, and her granddaughters, and her great-granddaughters
