Speck Funeral Home - Grover Brown Obituary

Overton County native and longtime Funeral Director, Mr. Grover C. Brown, passed away Saturday evening May 29, 2021, at the Livingston Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral Services for Mr. Grover C. Brown will be held 2 PM Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at the Livingston United Methodist Church with interment in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Rev. Tom Haliburton will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Mr. Brown was born, Grover Curtis Brown in the Ruth Chapel community of Overton County on January 24, 1933 to the late Thomas Clinton (Clint) Brown and Margaret Malissa Neely Brown. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. After his time in service he worked for the Union Bank & Trust Company for 20 plus years. After leaving the bank he became a partner with his in-laws, Ira M. and Vera Hyder Speck in Speck Funeral Home in 1976 and remained there until his retirement.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Livingston, the Livingston Rotary Club (1965) until his death. He was a life member of the American Legion (60 years) and the Livingston Exchange Club, and the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association.

He is survived by two daughters, Lesa Parsons and husband David of Livingston, Joy Beasley and husband Jerry of Ooltewah, Tennessee, son Dr. Ira L. Sidwell and wife Susan of Nashville, brother Charles Brown of Weatherford, Texas, Grandchildren Curt Parsons of Memphis, Stuart Parsons of Livingston, Jared Beasley and wife Holly of Chattanooga, Joanna Seltzer and husband Dr. Luke Seltzer of Costa Mesa, California, Julie Heriot and husband Matt of Marietta, Georgia, Dr. Brock Sidwell and wife Rainbow, Sarah Sidwell of Charlotte, North Carolina, Michelle Sidwell Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his Wife Joan Speck Brown (1998) sisters Reba Brown Wyrick, Linnie Brown Upchurch, Virgie Brown McAlpin. Brothers, Willie, Benton, Carlie, Haskell, Hubert, and Lloyd Brown.

Pallbearers to serve are Curt Parsons, Stuart Parsons, Jared Beasley, Brock Sidwell, Steve Brown, and Durran Lewis.

Honorary Pallbearers are Members of the Livingston Rotary Club, Members of the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association, Active and Retired Bankers, and the Livingston Exchange Club.
