Funeral Services Celebrating the Life of Mr. Howard Wayne Miller, age 74, of the Spring Creek Community, will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from the Netherland Church of Christ. Bro. Mark Loftis will officiate. Burial to follow in the Netherland Cemetery with military honors performed by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will welcome friends on Monday evening from 3 until 7 p.m. at Netherland Church of Christ.
Howard Wayne Miller passed away at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family on Friday evening, May 19, 2023. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on June 24, 1948, to the late Ruben Cordell and Ruby Rissy Norrod Miller. A 1967 graduate of Rickman High School, and a member and past elder of Netherland Church of Christ. Howard proudly served in the United States Army from 1968-1970, and was stationed in El Paso, Texas and Mainz, Germany. He attended Tennessee Technological University where he played basketball for the Golden Eagles and gained some of his closest lifelong friends. After graduating Tech in 1974, he worked for the Overton County School System for over 30 years where he coached numerous players including his sister, nephew, daughter, and son; however, anyone who knew him knew his favorite job was that of "Papa."
Howard is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Judy Smith Miller, of the Spring Creek Community; daughter, Lori Mosley and husband Steve, of the Spring Creek Community; son, Jimmy Miller and wife Kara of the Spring Creek Community; grandchildren, Bryer James Mosley, Hallie Grey Mosley, Tucker James Miller, Brody Cannon Miller, and Maddie Beth Miller all of the Spring Creek Community; brothers, Freddie Miller of Crawford, TN, and Bruce Miller and wife Dianne of Monterey, TN; sisters, Justine McDonald and husband Bruce of the Mineral Springs, Community, Twila Wilson and husband Larry of the Vines Ridge, Community, and Judy Ervin and husband Bobby of Monterey, TN; sisters-in-law, Danette Miller, Michelle Miller, Imogene Miller, Pam Miller, Mona Miller and Roberta Looper; A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by five brothers, Mike Miller, Beecher Miller, Raymond Miller, Bill Miller, and Clyde Miller; one sister, Ruth Ann Miller; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Miller and Freida Miller; one brother-in-law, Larry Looper.
Pallbearers to serve are John Miller, Xander Miller, Jeff Miller, Skip McDonald, Brad Potts, Christopher Looper, Matt Beard, and Tim Looper.
