Funeral Services for Mrs. Joyce Marie Sidwell Holman, age 96, of Livingston will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2024, from the First Christian Church in Livingston.  Bro. Bobby Gore and Bro. James Shenko will officiate.  Burial to follow in the Overton County Memorial Gardens.  The family will welcome friends at the church on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. then on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the First Christian Church in Livingston.  

Mrs. Joyce passed peacefully from this life on Thursday morning, May 23, 2024, from the Overton County Health and Rehab.  She was born at home in the Willow Grove Community, on August 27, 1927 to the late Dr. Frank Lee and Flora Grace Green Sidwell.  Mrs. Joyce attended Cookeville Elementary School, and graduated from Cookeville Central High in 1945.  She attended Tennessee Polytechnical Institute and graduated with a degree in Biology and Home Economics in 1949.  Mrs. Joyce also received her Teacher's Certification shortly after graduation.  

Mrs. Joyce married in 1949 and became a homemaker and was involved in many clubs and activities in the community.  Mrs. Joyce began her teaching career in 1961 at Livingston Elementary School.  She was passionate about Art, music, history and genealogy.  Mrs. Joyce was happiest painting, playing the piano, and visiting historic places.  Later in life her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her biggest joy.  She taught them drawing and would sing and play the piano with them.  She was fondly called, "Doctor Holman", because the grands had to have their Nanny's doctoring.  She was loving, caring, kind and unselfish but she let you know your place!  Mrs. Joyce was a member of the First Christian Church and sung in the choir for many years.  

Mrs. Joyce leaves behind her son William Lee Holman of Livingston, TN; daughter, Betty Massengille of Livingston, TN; grandchildren, James William Massengille and wife Lee Ann, Matthew Massengille and wife Jill, Beau Massengille and wife Margaret, Gary Massengille and wife Alexis, Cecilia Holman Little, and McKenzy Holman; great grandchildren, James Matthew Massengille and wife Katelyn, John Clay Massengille, Jack Thomas Massengille, Gracyn Massengille, Gillian Massengille, Mae Lois Massengille, Ashleigh Arnold and husband Hank, William Little, and Liam James Massengille; great-great-grandchildren, Ellie Arnold and Michael Arnold; sister-in-law, Jamie Sidwell of Gallatin, TN; brother-in-law, Dr. Bill Johnson of CA  A host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband William H. "Butch" Holman; brothers, Dr. Walter Frank Sidwell, and Robert Green Sidwell; sister, Betty Ann Johnson; and nephew Gary Johnson.

Pallbearers to serve are her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Honorary Pallbearers are Doctor Ira L. Sidwell, Jonathan R. Sidwell, Bobby Gore, Michael Garrett, Mike Elder, and David Peterman.
