Obituary

Lorene Walker passed away peacefully on July 29th, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Livingston surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Overton County October 21st, 1943 to the late Jewel & Ostie Estelle Shields.  She was a loving, generous, and friendly soul who touched the lives of many throughout her 79 years.

After graduating Livingston Academy High School, Lorene worked as a receptionist for WLIV Radio Station for 25 years where she conveyed a positive and professional image.   Her co-workers, Carolyn Peterman and Joel Upton became her life-long friends. Throughout her professional life, Lorene was a dedicated and hardworking individual.

Lorene was of the Missionary Baptist Faith where she found solace and strength at church.  Before church, Sunday gatherings were spent with family at her grandparent’s house, Millard and Mary Jane Savage.  She also loved The Savage family reunions. A holiday family tradition was spending Christmas Eve at her sister Janie’s house where presents were exchanged, cookies were baked, and memories were made. Lorene and Charles always welcomed everyone into their home whether to play Rook on Friday nights, shelter someone from the storm, or sit on their back porch telling stories. They looked forward to summer camping at Keisling’s Bottom with family and friends and playing horseshoes.  Opryland theme park was a yearly destination to enjoy time together. They loved visits from Ronnie and LoAnne Savage from Columbus, Ohio where they discussed family heritage and shared pictures and videos of the past year.  After having grandkids, Saturdays were spent looking for Pokemon cards, going to the creek, cheering them on at sporting events, or watching Walker Texas Ranger.

On October 21, 1961, Lorene’s 18th birthday, she married the love of her life, Charles Walker, in Livingston, TN. She always joked that Charles had to sell his horse to buy her a wedding ring. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two children, Steve Walker and Tamara Crowder and her husband Lee of Livingston. They were married for 58 years. On their 50th wedding Anniversary, they were surprised with a Yorkie puppy named Boots that became so precious to them.  Lorene’s love for her family was boundless. She will be remembered as the best granny by her four grandchildren, who were the loves of her life, Trent, Levi, Loren, and Bella. She was their biggest supporter and always there for them.  Lorene took many road trips with Tamara and Bella and loved their time together. She also adored her 8 great grandchildren. Lorene was a caring, supportive and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Her interests were vast and varied, but her true passion was helping others and spending time with family.

She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Crowder and husband Lee of Livingston TN.; sisters, Pat Bates and husband Kameron of Hilham and Kathy Burgass; grandchildren, Trent Walker, Levi Crowder, Loren Crowder, and Bella Crowder.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Charles Walker, son: Steve Walker, and sisters: Sharon Minor ,and Janie Perkins.

Pallbearers: Levi Crowder, Loren Crowder, Bella Crowder, Trent Walker, Austin Dodson, Chase Chaffin and Kade Roberts

Honoring mom’s wish, a graveside service of Lorene’s Life was held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29th, at Overton County Memorial Gardens in Livingston, TN.  Her daughter, Tamara Crowder read a poem, Medals for Mothers and said a Heavenly Prayer.

Lorene’s unwavering love, kindness, and dedication to her family and friends will forever be remembered. She was a shining example of what it means to live a life full of purpose, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Mom, Your footsteps can never be filled, nor your love ever forgotten.

Metals For Mothers

By Daniel O’Donnell

I dreamed mama walked up
Those heavenly stairs
And medals for mothers
Were given up there

They mentioned the million things
Mom did for me
Things I took for granted
And never could see.

If there's medals for mother
For all of the deeds they have done
If there's medals for mothers
Mama you'll win everyone.

A medal of honor
Was pinned on her there
A medal for patience
And kind loving care.

A medal for duty
She won up above
But the biggest of all
Was the one for her love.

If there's medals for mothers
For all of the deeds they have done
If there's medals for mothers
Mama you'll win everyone.

Yes, Mama you'll win everyone...
