Speck Funeral Home - Louise Cooper Obituary

Funeral Services for Mrs. Neolina Louise Cooper, age 90, of Goodlettsville will be conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Goodlettsville Ward.  Bishop Brad Hull will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Netherland Cemetery in Rickman,TN.  The family will welcome friends from 10 a.m. until time of services

Mrs. Louise passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 30, 2024. She was born in Hilo, Hawaii, and was the second of eight children. She later moved to Oahu where she met and married the love of her life, James Billy. Cooper, of the Spring Creek Community, in Overton County, TN. They had three children.

She is preceded in death by her husband James Billy Cooper, Sr, and son, James B. Cooper, Jr (Jimmy).

She recently celebrated her 90th birthday with her family, and was greatly loved by everyone that knew her. She has served her community and church all her life, from Hawaii to Tennessee to Germany, and back. While living in Hawaii, she worked in the Public Elementary School System in Mililani Town, Hawaii, as a "Kupuna '' which is a Teacher of Hawaiian History/Arts/Language/Dance. She was loved by her students and fellow teachers and received many awards for her successes. She loved to crochet and donate baby blankets to the Hendersonville Medical Community, as well as several of her personal Doctor's offices and staff, for their newborns and toddlers. Her love for others was evident by her endless service. She always left someone better than she found them. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and volunteered in her church community while serving and loving others. She also served in the Oahu, Hawaii and Nashville, Tennessee temples. She is a true disciple of Jesus Christ and always strived to live by His teachings.

She is survived by two daughters, Lugene Cooper of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, and LouAnn Cooper Ballington (Gerald Ballington) of Florida and her Sister, Elizabeth Gustavus of Honolulu, Hawaii. She has two grandchildren; Rachel Ballington Pettus (Joshua Pettus) of Lexington, AL and Brittany Ballington Duran (Logan Duran) of East Hampton, NY. She has five grandchildren; Logan, Hyrum, Samuel & Ephraim Pettus, and Adelaide Duran.
