Funeral Services for Mrs. Lucille Hinds Huddleston, age 97 of Grand Rapids, MI, and formerly of Overton County, will be conducted 11 AM Saturday, July 20th from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston. Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. The family will welcome friends on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM.
Mrs. Huddleston passed away at home July 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Lucille was born February 14, 1927 in Pickett County, TN She was the daughter of the late Roy T and Ida (Smith) Hinds of Rickman, TN. She loved her family fiercely, sports passionately, and Jesus faithfully.
On May 17, 1946, in Alpine, TN, Lucille married, Haskell W. Huddleston, the son of the late Morrison H. and Frankie (Vaughn) Huddleston of Livingston, TN. Lucille and her husband, Haskell, moved from Livingston, TN to Battle Creek, MI on Christmas day, 1950. You can take the girl out of Tennessee but you can’t take Tennessee out of the girl. She was forever the sweetest southern girl. Lucille moved to Grand Rapids, MI from Battle Creek, MI in June 2013 to be close to her daughter, Sharon and granddaughter, Tara.
Lucille retired in 1985 from the Kellogg’s Company after 31 years of faithful service. Lucille was a member of Central Christian Church and a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club. She enjoyed all sports. She played varsity basketball as an 8th grade student, 9th, 10th and her senior year. She had to sit out her 11th year because she could only play 4 consecutive years of a sport. She also played on a women’s league in Battle Creek, MI. She played for P&M Construction Company and they won the MI State Women’s Championship in 1960 and 1961. She also loved bowling and was on two leagues.
She is survived by her daughter: Sharon K. (Robert Jansheski) Baker of Comstock Park, MI; three grandchildren: Tara M. Baker of Grand Rapids, MI, Ryan C. W. (Jandi) Baker of Livonia, MI, and Ross D. (Cate) Baker of Haslett, MI; three great-grandchildren: J.C. Tate (Jessica) Baker of Grand Rapids, MI, William R. Baker and Lucilia M. Baker of Haslett, MI; and her sister, Nellie O. Diamond of Allons, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Haskell W. Huddleston; her son-in-law: Richard C. Baker; two brothers: Harlan A. Hinds and G. Kirby Hinds; and three sisters: Verla E. Gentry, Kathryn A. Coward and Pauline L. Keisling.
Pallbearers to serve Ross Baker, Ryan Baker, Tate Baker, Will Baker, Mike Huddleston, and Britt Kiesling.
Honorary pallbearers are Lucy Baker, Sam Coward, Chris Diamond, Bruce Harris, David Harris, Roy Hinds, Bob Huddleston, Jeff Huddleston, and Tony Huddleston.
