Lydia Wilkinson, 97, passed away July 1 at St. Vincent’s hospital. She was born November 19, 1922 in Hilham, Tennessee to James R. and Dora (Hawkins) Carmack. She graduated from Fisk Academy, where she was on the basketball team. She moved to Anderson as a young woman where she spent the remainder of her life.
Lydia was employed at the Ward Stilson Co. and St. John’s Hospital during World War II, and later worked at Gospel Trumpet when it became Warner Press. For much of her life she was a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed playing bingo, traveling to Las Vegas, and going to Hoosier Park casino. She frequently visited her relatives in Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Quincy Wilkinson, her son Timothy Wilkinson, and eight siblings. She is survived by her daughter Teresa Fisher; son Tom Wilkinson; grandchildren Michelle MarQuand, Chris Marquand (Laurel), and Kelly Clensy (Tim); step-grandson Dustin Mullins; great-grandchildren Dominik, Rian, Dani, Fiona, and Cronin; her brother, William C. Carmack (Dalphine) of Livingston, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
