Speck Funeral Home - M.J. Harris

Funeral Services for Mr. M.J. Harris, age 91, of the Highland Mountain Community will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2023, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.  Bro. Derek Parsons will officiate.  Burial to follow in the Oakley Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard.  The family will welcome friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services.

Mr. Harris passed from this life on Monday evening, October 2, 2023, from the Overton County Heatlh and Rehab.  He was born at home in Livingston, Tennessee on May 27, 1932, to the late William Luther and Belle Brown Harris. M.J. served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Highland Mountain Freewill Baptist Church, where he loved singings, and his church family.  He worked for many years for Potters Building Supply Company.

M.J. leaves behind his brothers, L.N. Harris of Monterey, TN, Jerry Harris of Livingston, TN, J.B. Harris and wife Gale of Crawford, TN; sisters, Bessie Harris of Monterey, TN, and Carrie L. Vaughn of Livingston, TN; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, M.J. was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Smith Harris; sisters, Audie Mae Harris and Bertie Harris Davidson; brothers, Billy C. Harris, Joe L. Harris; nephews, Donnie Smith and Bobby L. Harris. 

Pallbearers to serve are Gary McDonald, Ryan Ledbetter, Mike Peek, Donald Brown, Ronnie Smith, Gary Harris, and Richard Harris.
