Speck Funeral Home - Margaret Smith Obituary

Funeral Services for Mrs. Margaret Leigh Brown Smith, age 75 of Livingston, will be conducted 11 AM Wednesday, January 18th from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.  Bro. Chris Coil and Bro. Dwight Fuqua will officiate.  Burial will be in Martin Cemetery.  The family will welcome friends on Tuesday from 3 PM until 7 PM and again on Wednesday from 9 AM until the time of services at 11 AM.

Leigh passed from this life on January 15, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.  Born in Groton, Connecticut, on April 12, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Robert A. and Betty Cosgrove Brown.

Leigh loved her family, church activities, writing cards, giving to others, the lake and ocean, and spending time with friends.  She was a member of the Livingston Church of Christ.

Leigh graduated from David Lipscomb College with a degree in Education.  She retired from the State of Tennessee after dedicating 30 years to teaching, human services, and the Tennessee Department of Corrections as a probation officer. 

Leigh is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Merl Smith; son Ryan Smith and wife Traci of Cookeville; daughter Paige Strong and husband Mark of Celina; grandchildren Hannah Smith, Kiley Smith, Cade Smith, and Marleigh Strong; sister Linda Solinsky and husband Tom of Greeneville, South Carolina; brother Robert N. Brown and wife Joanne of Seneca, South Carolina; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Leigh was preceded in death by her brothers James D. Brown and Robert E. Brown (infant).

Pallbearers to serve are Mark Strong, Cade Smith, Derek Hunley, Lindon Carwile, James Massengille, and Brock McCoin.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Martin Cemetery Fund at Union Bank in Livingston or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville, 2144 Fairfax Avenue, Nashville TN 37212.
