Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Marvin Oliver Bourland, age 76, of the Baptist Ridge Community, will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Military honors will be provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard following the service.

Mr. Bourland passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. He was born on November 7, 1948, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Morris Calvin and Wilma Jean Oliver Bourland.

Marvin proudly served in the 101st Airborne Division. He was the dedicated owner and operator of Cumberland Restoration Carpet Cleaning, where he was well known for his strong work ethic and deep commitment to his customers. A lifelong learner and builder, Marvin was gifted in gunmaking and tool and die work, and was a passionate inventor and entrepreneur. His inventive mind was always working on ways to improve the world around him.

Marvin was also active in triathlon training and had a deep love for the outdoors. He cultivated apple orchards and muscadine grape vineyards, and took great pride in keeping his yard immaculate. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time in nature with his family. He was stubborn, set in his ways, and never afraid to speak his mind but behind that tough exterior was someone who loved deeply, laughed often, and made friends everywhere he went. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Bourland of the Baptist Ridge Community; his daughters, Emily Sue Curtis and husband Jake of Chattanooga, TN, Anna "Annie" Bourland of Baptist Ridge Community, TN, and Amanda Brown and husband Jared of Memphis, TN; and his beloved grandchildren, Claire and Maggie Curtis, and Brody Addison.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his brothers, George Bourland and Morris Calvin Bourland, Jr.
