Speck Funeral Home - Mike Cooper Obituary

Graveside services for Mr. Mikkel Jerome Cooper, lovingly called "Mike," age 83 of Charleston, South Carolina, will take place on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., from the Okolona Cemetery, with Military Honors provided at graveside by the Overton County Veteran Honor Guard.   Family and friends are invited to gather at the graveside to honor a life so wonderfully lived.

Mike was born in Clinton, Iowa, and from the start, he carried a heart full of kindness, love, and laughter. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mary Katherine Cooper, whose memory he cherished every day. Together, they built a life centered on love and family, and their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Tanessa K. Fisher, her husband, Gregory S. Fisher, and his two grandsons, Cooper and Owen, who were the light of his life. His eyes would sparkle with pride whenever he spoke about them. Mike also leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews in Nebraska and Tennessee, whose lives were forever brightened by his humor and warmth.

After playing football for the University of Nebraska, Mike followed his heart into service, dedicating 30 years to the United States Navy. He earned a black belt in judo and shared his skills as a self-defense instructor, always lifting others up with his strength and wisdom.

Mike’s life was filled with passions that reflected his vibrant spirit. He loved to swim, run, and cheer on his favorite team, the Chicago Bears. When he wasn’t cheering, he was singing a tune, telling a joke, or sharing advice that came straight from the heart.

In his final year, Mike moved to Charleston, South Carolina, to be near his family. His days were filled with the joy of watching his grandsons grow, sharing stories with his daughter, and simply basking in the love of those closest to him.

Mike was a gentle soul with a big heart, always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or bring comfort to those who needed it. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and a genuine joy for life.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family and friends find solace in the countless beautiful memories he left behind. His love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
