In Loving Memory of Mrs. Retha Ann Cooper Ogletree
May 3, 1940 – April 17, 2025
With hearts full of both sorrow and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Mrs. Retha Ann Cooper Ogletree, age 84, of Allons, Tennessee, who departed this life peacefully at her home on the afternoon of Thursday, April 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Speck Funeral Home, with Bro. John Keith officiating. She will be laid to rest at Holly Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation and remembrance on Monday evening, April 21, 2025, from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.
Born at home in the Davidson Community of Fentress County, Tennessee on May 3, 1940, Retha was the beloved daughter of the late Charlie Frances and Audie Hallie Dishman Cooper. From her earliest days, she embodied the values of faith, family, and servant-hearted love that would define her life.
Retha’s life was a testament to quiet strength and enduring devotion. A faithful member of Allons Baptist Church, she served joyfully in the choir and the women’s Sunday school class, always seeking to glorify God in her daily walk. Her unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life, and her love for the Lord was evident in every act of kindness she extended to others.
She was the heart of her family, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of home-cooked meals. Saturday mornings were a cherished tradition—when she would rise early to prepare breakfast for the whole family, ensuring no one left hungry or unloved. No visitor ever left her home without a sweet treat and a reminder of how deeply they were cared for.
A gifted homemaker and artisan, Retha found joy in quilting, gardening, sewing, and canning—each a reflection of her patience, creativity, and love for simple, beautiful things. She took special delight in caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, pouring into them the same faith and values she held dear.
Retha also participated wholeheartedly in community life. She was a joyful and accomplished participant in the Overton County Fair, where she earned numerous ribbons for her handmade creations. As a proud member of the Women’s Farm Bureau Society from 1992 to 2023, she served faithfully, taking her late husband’s place on the Board of Directors from 2010 until 2023, stepping down only when her health no longer allowed.
She is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by:
Her daughter: Tina Williams and husband Vance of Allons, TN
Her grandchildren: Taryn Williams Hodge and husband Brandon of Livingston, TN; James Williams and wife Rena of Allons, TN; and Abi Williams of Allons, TN
Her great-grandchildren: Reece and Owen Hodge, and Thea and James Hardy Williams
Her sisters: Sue Allen of Cookeville, TN, and Charlene Holt of High Point, NC
Her brother: Bobby Cooper and wife Faye of Livingston, TN
Her special daughter: Beth Carr
Her special sister: Alice Cole
Her devoted caregivers: Loretta Stacy and Sharolette Hensley
She now rejoins her loving husband, James Hardy Ogletree, in eternal rest, along with her infant brother and dear sisters, Shirley Duvall and Patsy Allen.
Pallbearers to serve are James Williams, Brandon Hodge, Durran Lewis, Brian Rector, John Rector, and Jefferey Holt.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Retha’s memory to consider a donation to the Allons Baptist Church Senior Fund, a cause close to her heart. Donations may be made by contacting Speck Funeral Home.
Her legacy of love, faith, and service lives on in all who knew her. We rejoice in knowing she is now resting in the arms of her Savior, hearing the words: "Well done, good and faithful servant.”
