Born on July 18, 1964, to Anna Ruth Smith Cooper and the late Lester Allen Cooper, Richard was a man of integrity and quiet strength. A 1982 graduate of Decatur Central High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Richard loved the outdoors, often found with a fishing pole in hand, and cherished every moment cheering on his grandson from the sidelines. Above all, he was a family man who found his greatest joy in the company of loved ones.
Richard leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. Surviving him are his daughter, Leslie Cooper (fiancé Kevin), and son, Harmon Cooper (wife Tara); his devoted mother, Anna Ruth Cooper; his beloved grandchildren, Bianca, Cheyenne, Tyler, Charlotte, Chanlee, and Deakin; and his brothers, Johnnie Cooper and Tommy Cooper (wife Kathy). He also leaves behind cherished aunts, Betty Louise Story, Judy Choate, and Hallie Armstrong, uncle, Howard Smith, and extended family. He joins in peace his father and brothers, Darb and Bill Cooper, who preceded him in death.
Richard’s life was a testament to love, and resilience. His kind heart and steady presence will be dearly missed but forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
