Speck Funeral Home - Robert "Dutch" Paul Richardson Obituary

Mr. Robert "Dutch" Paul Richardson, age 89, of Cookeville, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Hospital. His family, friends, and all who knew him will forever cherish the legacy he leaves behind.

A funeral service to celebrate Dutch’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Following the service, Dutch will be laid to rest in the Overton County Memorial Garden, where military honors will be provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Richardson retired as a chief in the United States Coast Guard where he served for twenty six years. Dutch's family will welcome friends for visitation on Tuesday, January 14th, from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.

Born on September 17, 1935, to the late Clarence and Beulah Whitson Richardson, Dutch was a man whose interests were as varied as they were passionate. Whether riding his beloved Goldwing motorcycle, collecting antique tractors (especially his cherished International Harvester models), or displaying his treasured 6-gauge model trains at the Cookeville Depot, Dutch’s enthusiasm was contagious. He was a collector of Pepsi-Cola memorabilia, and was a member of the Pepsi-Cola collectors club and attended Pepsi Fest every year for 37 years.

Dutch was also deeply devoted to his community, working tirelessly to ensure that veterans in the Upper Cumberland region had a cemetery where they could be honored. His service and dedication to others were a testament to the kind of man he was—one who always put others first.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Patsy Richardson, of Cookeville; his sisters Terrell Burnelle and her husband Robert of California, and Nancy Budge and her husband Mason, also of California; his brother-in-law John Myers and his wife Cheryl of Cookeville; and his great niece and nephew Dawn Fry and her husband Shawn, and Jeff Myers, all of Cookeville. Dutch was a proud and loving great-uncle to Sydney Fry, Austin Fry, and Arianna Myers, and he will be greatly missed by many other family members and friends.

Dutch was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Beulah Richardson, and leaves behind a family and community who will forever be grateful for his kind heart and strong spirit.

Serving as pallbearers are John Myers, Jeff Myers, Ed Copeland, Kevin Speck, and Mike Roberts, and The Honorable Shawn Fry.

While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing that Dutch’s life was a life well-lived, filled with love, adventure, and a genuine care for others. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Military Memorial Museum Of The Cumberland Alexander Alenitsch, Treasurer 117 Black Oak ln. Crossville, Tn 38555
