Funeral Services for Mr. Roy Hugh Melton, age 79, of the Independence Community will be held 2 PM Friday, April 21st from the Free Communion Church of Christ where the body will lie in repose from 12 noon until the time of services.  Bro. Chris Coil and Bro. Tanner Lacy will officiate.  Burial will be in the Roy Hugh Melton Family Cemetery.  The family will welcome friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 9 PM from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston and again on Friday from 12 noon until the time of services at 2 PM at Free Communion Church of Christ.

Mr. Roy Hugh Melton passed peacefully on Monday morning, April 17, 2023, from his home surrounded by his loving family.    He was born in Pickett County on November 20, 1943, to the late Glen and Mary Mullins Melton.    He attended school at Barnes Ridge and Independence Elementary.  He was a member of the Livingston Academy Class of 1962.  In 1966, Roy Hugh attended Barber School in Nashville and then began his career at the University Barber Shop at Tennessee Tech in 1967.  In 1969, he started working at the Model Barber Shop on the Square in Livingston and continued there for the next 52 years, retiring in 2021 when a stroke took away the use of his right arm and hand.  Roy Hugh loved spending time with his family, watching his children and grandchildren play sports (especially Livingston Academy basketball), and working with cattle and mules.  He enjoyed working on the farm, being outdoors, and singing with his family.  Roy Hugh was a member of the Free Communion Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for many years.  He loved his Lord, his family, and his country.

Roy Hugh leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years Mildred Ledbetter Melton; children Lisa Melton Ramsey and husband John Mark of Livingston, Marla Melton Dailey and husband Teddy of Livingston, Michael Melton and wife Billie Lou of Monroe, and Richard Melton and wife Amellia of Livingston; 10 grandchildren Deven Ramsey and wife Mackenzie, Logan Ramsey and wife Rachael, Mason Ramsey and wife Rachel, Allison Lacy and husband Tanner, Jameson Dailey, Bradie Spears and husband Clayton, Blaine Melton, Reese Melton and fiancee Keshia Norris, Eli Melton, and Aleah Melton; 13 great grandchildren Nathan Ramsey, Harrison Lacy, Darci Ramsey, Drue Spears, Emma Jane Ramsey, Cooper Lacy, Marcus Ramsey, Malcolm Ramsey, Daxen Ramsey, Cullom Lacy, Lincoln Ramsey, Duncan Ramsey, Jack Spears, and Dean Melton due in June; brothers Rex Melton and wife Faye of Monroe, Joe Melton of Hartford City, Indiana, and Kendrick Melton of Monroe; sister Shirley Garrett of Monroe; brothers-in-law Donald Norrod of Monroe, Pug Lee of Livingston, Robert McDonald of Livingston, Donald Ledbetter of Livingston, Buddy Ledbetter and wife Susan of Livingston, and Gary Ledbetter and wife Dianne of Rickman; sisters-in-law Jane Jolley of Livingston, Faye Winningham of Livingston, Ellen Kennedy of Rickman, Nina Crabtree of Livingston, and Anita Ledbetter of Livingston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Roy Hugh was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Glenmore and Velma Ledbetter; brothers Doc Jolley and Gary Fred Jolley; sisters Juanita Huddleston Roberts, Jean Norrod, Ruth Waddey, Barbara Lee, Gayle Beaty, and infant sister Linda Sue Melton; brothers-in-law Dale Ledbetter, Charles Kennedy, and Max Crabtree; and sisters-in-law Leiron Jolley, Brenda McDonald, and Peggy Rooker Ledbetter.

Pallbearers to serve are his grandsons Deven Ramsey, Logan Ramsey, Mason Ramsey, Reese Melton, Blaine Melton, and Eli Melton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Roy Hugh Melton Family Cemetery at American Bank & Trust in Livingston.
