Speck Funeral Home - Shirley Melton

Funeral Services for Mrs. Shirley Ann Roarks Melton, age 82, of Cookeville will be conducted 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.  Grandson Seth Melton will officiate.  Burial to follow in the Fellowship Cemetery.  The family will welcome friends on Monday evening from 4:30 until 7 p.m., at Speck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shirley passed from the comfort of her home on Thursday morning, October 21, 2021.  Shirley was a native of Overton County and graduated high school in Pickett County in 1957.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Cecil Leon Melton; parents, Amos and Cassie Lee Melton Roarks; and sister, Carol Parsons.  

Shirley is survived by her three children, Gary Melton, Vickie Spencer and husband John, and Tammy Abbott and husband Rick all of Cookeville, TN.  She also leaves behind the most precious things in her life, her five grandchildren and her eight great-grandchildren. 

Shirley lived a simple life and understood that worldly goods were not what made a life special.   She instilled the belief in her children that having each other and staying close made us richer than anything else could.

Pallbearers to serve are John Spencer, David Hewitt, Rick Abbott, Todd Abbott, Seth Melton, and Ethan Hewitt.
