Graveside services for Mr. Stephen Otis Gunter, age 66, of Hilham, will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2024, at Hilham Cemetery, with Bro. Danny Staggs officiating. The family will greet friends at the graveside.

Stephen passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024. He was born on November 10, 1958, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Otis B. and Golla May Jones Gunter. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Stephen carried a quiet strength and a humble heart throughout his life. He earned a degree in philosophy, which he used to inspire young minds as an English teacher in Cumberland County. Beyond teaching, he shared his love of soccer as a coach, leaving a lasting impression on many students.

Stephen was a man of simple joys and deep passions. He loved reading, collecting books, and finding peace by the ocean. He cherished time with family and friends, valuing the moments that brought connection and meaning to life.

He is survived by his brothers, Phillip Ray Gunter (Arlene) of Livingston, TN, James Michael Gunter (Janet Faye) of Chicago, IL, and David Lee Gunter (Janice) of Arkansas; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.

Stephen will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who found beauty in life’s simple pleasures and gave generously of himself to others. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
