Speck Funeral Home - Thomas John Cavanaugh Jr Obituary

Mr. Thomas John Cavanaugh, 62, of Livingston, passed away at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville on December 17th 2025. Tom was a brilliant man who valued education and the exchange of ideas.

 

Tom is survived by his wife Linda Cavanaugh and a sister Tracy (Robert) Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas John Cavanaugh Sr. and Marilyn Lubscher Cavanaugh. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John, and step-father Calvin Seymour.

 

Tom was known for his quick wit and sharp mind. Tom held two masters degrees, one in English and one in Education. Tom had a teaching career with stints at Tennessee Tech University and Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey. Tom enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends and then retiring with a good book or old movie. Tom was a spiritual person and valued time spent in study of God's word. Tom loved to spoil his fur babies, Lucy and Jack, whom were rescue dogs. Tom, with brilliant mind and humorous disposition will be greatly missed.

 

Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, one can make a donation to the Foundation For Sarcoidosis Research, 320 W Ohio St, Chicago IL 60654 in Tom's memory.
